Lisa and I are leaving for Comic Con this morning, and we’re so darn excited. We thought we’d share with you our must-see panels for the next few days, and our reasons why we’re going.
Wednesday night 6-7:30: Viewing of the pilot episode of the new J.J. Abrams show Fringe.
Jen: I’ve heard so much about this TV show, both the bad and the good, I’m interested to see it for myself. Plus, I’ve enjoyed many of J.J. Abrams previous TV shows, so I’d like to give this one a whirl.
Lisa: I’ve enjoyed seeing premier episodes of TV shows at Comic Con because I don’t usually watch TV so this may be my only shot at seeing any promo for it.
Thursday 12:00-1:00 Doctor Who panel. In attendance, writer Russell T Davies, executive producer Julie Gardner, and writer Steven Moffat.
Jen: I got hooked on Doctor Who last fall and have since glommed all the episodes of the current series. I’d like to hear some teasers about what’s to come.
Lisa: Torchwood was responsible for hooking Jen on Doctor Who and I was responsible for hooking Jen on Torchwood. I’ve been catching up on the 30 years of Doctor Who back-episodes through Netflix. It’s hard not to get excited about a show like that.
Thursday, 1:00-2:00 Torchwood. In attendance, writer Russell T Davies, executive producer Julie Gardner, writer Steven Moffat, and actors John Barrowman, Gareth David-Lloyd, Naoko Mori and Burn Gorman.
Jen: Do I even need to explain why I’m attending this panel? John Barrowman!!! And Gareth and Naoko and Burn. I’m determined to be as close to the front as possible to take lots and lots of photos.
Lisa: When I first saw Torchwood, I was blown away by how different it was from the rest of the shows I’d seen. The characters were so rich and mysterious, I was hooked. I hope they’re as engaging in person as they are on screen.
Thursday, 10:00pm-midnight. Premiere of Lost Boys: The Tribe. In attendance, director, PJ Pesce, actors Corey Feldman, Tad Hilgenbrinck, Angus Sutherland and Autumn Reeser.
Lisa: I’m still sworn to secrecy about what I did on this project, but let’s just say that I’ll be coming to this screening in a rather authentic costume—but not from the movie, itself. Jen promised to take pictures.
Jen: Yup, I’ll be there with camera in tow. And that’s probably all I should say about that, before I accidentally spill info I’m not supposed to spill…
Friday 1:30-2:30 Joss Whedon panel
Jen: *raises hand* Obsessed Joss Whedon fangirl. ‘Nuff said.
Lisa: Who isn’t a fan of Joss? I mean, really…
Friday 3:00-4:00 SCI FI: Ghost Hunters panel. In attendance, Jason Hawes and Grant Wilson.
Jen: I’ve been a fan of this show and these two men since Ghost Hunters debuted on the sci-fi channel a few years ago. Looking forward to hearing them speak in person.
Lisa: I’m looking forward to this panel for reasons other than just hearing them talk. I’m now a member of TAPS West Coast and this will be my first chance to meet them as such. I met them earlier this year and got to investigate with them as well. Here’s hoping they’ll tag along on a TAPS West investigation while they’re out visiting Comic Con.
Friday 4:30-5:30 Bones panel. In attendance, the entire cast (David Boreanaz, Emily Deschanel, Michaela Conlin, Tamara Taylor, John Francis Daley) and creators Hart Hanson and Barry Josephson.
Jen: I have to admit I’m a bit surprised that Bones is going to be at Comic Con. But, that said, I haven’t seen David in person since 1999, so it might be fun to attend this one.
Lisa: in 1999: “Jen, he’s right there.” Jen: “Where? I don’t see him at all.” Lisa: “In the cowboy hat, like ten feet away from us.” Jen: “Oh!!!!! There! Wow…!” I’ve worked with him on Angel and on Bones. I was one of the dead nuns in the opening scene of the 100th episode of Angel. My scene in Bones got cut. I was just walking around in the background, though.
Friday 5:30-6:30 24 panel. In attendance, the executive producers and stars Kiefer Sutherland and Carlos Bernard.
Jen: This is another show I’m surprised to see at Comic Con. Although, to celebrate the sequel to Lost Boys playing the night before, it would be fun to see Kiefer in person.
Lisa: How awesome would it be if Kiefer decided to show up to the Lost Boys: The Tribe screening the night before? I doubt it’d happen, but a girl can dream, right?
Jen: Hey, he might! His half-brother is in the movie, after all.
Friday 6:30-8:00 Kevin Smith panel.
Jen: Lisa and I always make it a point to see Kevin Smith in person at Comic Con. He’s hilarious, and even though I go in expecting the unexpected from him, I still end up surprised by what comes out of his mouth. The man has no verbal filter, which makes the event entertaining as all hell.
Lisa: I love Kevin Smith. I dunno exactly why. I just do.
Saturday 10:30-11:45 Heroes question and answer panel. In attendance, creator Tim Kring, comic book artist Tim Sale, and the cast: Jack Coleman (H.R.G.), Greg Grunberg (Matt Parkman), Ali Larter (Niki Sanders), James Kyson Lee (Ando Masahashi), Masi Oka (Hiro Nakamura), Hayden Panettiere (Claire Bennet), Adrian Pasdar (Nathan Petrelli), Zachary Quinto (Sylar), Sendhil Ramamurthy (Mohinder Suresh), Dania Ramirez (Maya Herrera), Cristine Rose (Angela Petrelli), and Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli).
Jen: Okay, I loved Heroes season one. Season two…not so much. But I’m willing to give them a second chance, since Tim Kring has come out and apologized for season two. I’d like to hear about what’s to come…and hope it’s good.
Lisa: I saw the cast at an event in Downtown Los Angeles back in December 2007 and was pleasantly surprised at their stage presence. I’m betting this’ll be a great panel to watch.
12:00-1:00 Lost— In attendance, Co-creator/executive producer Damon Lindelof and executive producer Carlton Cuse.
Jen: I almost gave up on Lost during season three, but I stuck with it and am definitely looking forward to what’s to come. Although D&C are notoriously tight lipped about plot lines (huh, sounds like how Lisa and I are when people ask us about what’s going to happen in upcoming Talisman Bay books—we know, we just don’t share *G*) so I don’t know if I’ll get much out of this panel, other than an increased anticipation as to what’s to come.
Lisa: I’m mostly following Jen on this one. Perhaps it’ll inspire me to rent the DVDs.
1:00-2:00 Dollhouse— In attendance, Joss Whedon, and actors Eliza Dushku and Tahmoh Penikett.
Jen: Remember how I said I’m a Joss fangirl? I need that on a T-shirt. Anyway, when I first heard Joss was coming back to TV, I danced around my house. So I’m definitely not going to miss this panel. I’ll miss the Lost panel and the Heroes panel before I miss this one.
Lisa: Another Joss panel? Really? Us? We’d go to it? No way! I was once a stand-in for Eliza Dushku on a very, very, very cold night in the middle of nowhere. She thanked me even when she didn’t have to. She’s awesome.
3:30-4:30 Chuck Screening and Q&A—In attendance, Chuck executive producer Josh Schwartz, co-creator Chris Fedak, and stars Zachary Levi, Yvonne Strahovski, Joshua Gomez, Sarah Lancaster, Ryan McPartlin, and Adam Baldwin.
Jen: I thought Chuck was a fun new show last season and was sorry that the writer’s strike kept it from getting a full-season run. Plus, I wouldn’t mind seeing Adam Baldwin in person. I’ve had a bit of a crush on him since I first saw him in Independence Day. And of course I loved him as Jayne in Firefly & Serenity.
Lisa: I have no idea about this one, but by the names, it should be a lot of fun.
Jen: At this point I don’t plan on attending the con on Sunday, although because the Supernatural panel, with yummy Jensen Ackles and Jared Padelecki, is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, I may attend. Plus, they’re closing out Comic Con with a screening of the musical Buffy episode, “Once More With Feeling”. And for that alone, it might be worth sticking around to the very end.
Lisa: Oh, come on, let’s stay. I’ll be loopy as all get-out by then. It’ll be fun and you’ll get to feast on some eye-candy. How is that not a reason to stick around?
Jen: So now you know what Lisa and I will be doing for the next five days. We’ll be twittering while we’re there, too. (Jen and Lisa) We’ll also update you here next week with who we got to see in person, and any adventures we may experience.
